Wigan and Leigh Housing Company  was set up on 1st April 2002, to manage and maintain Council homes on behalf of Wigan Council.

The Company is responsible for managing all landlord services for Wigan Council's 23,000 homes including rent collection, repairs and maintenance, dealing with empty properties and all tenancy matters.

Wigan and Leigh Housing also deals with other functions on behalf of the Council such as homelessness and council house sales. The powers of the Company and the Company Directors are outlined in our Memorandum and Articles of Association. The Scheme of Delegations sets out the powers delegated from the Council to the Board and from Board to Committees and the Chief Executive.

A 'not for profit' company, Wigan and Leigh Housing is managed by a Board of Directors. The Board is made up of one third Council tenants, one third Council representatives and one third Independent people.

In 2002, the organisation went through a rigorous inspection by the Government's Audit Commission and was awarded a two star status. We were inspected again in 2005 and again given a two star status.

Every few years the organisation produces a Delivery and Business Plan. This sets out our business objectives. We also produce an Annual Report, this is a summary of the Company's activities for the previous financial year. The Annual Report is produced following completion of the audit of accounts for the financial year and is presented for approval at the Company's Annual General Meeting.
