Sheltered Housing Tenant Board Member Elections

We have recently conducted a ballot of tenants in sheltered housing accommodation to elect a Board Member to represent sheltered housing tenants.

We have recently conducted a ballot of tenants in sheltered housing accommodation to elect a Board Member to represent sheltered housing tenants. A total of 1452 sheltered housing tenants were invited to vote by post for a candidate to represent them on the Wigan and Leigh Housing Board. They were provided with a candidate statement from each of the three candidates who stood in the election, a ballot paper and a Freepost envelope to return their vote.

The count took place on 22nd July in the conference room at Unity House. Wigan and Leigh Housing provided the counters and the count was overseen by the Company Secretary. Candidates were invited to attend along with three Scheme Managers who were present as observers to ensure that the count was conducted in a fair and open manner. The result of the ballot was as follows:

 Candidate Votes
Marie Blundell, Lunedale, Platt Bridge  279 (45.5%)
Margaret Bowen, Greenwood Road, Standish  124 (20.3%)
Vincent France, Car Bank Avenue, Atherton  206 (33.7%)
Spoilt Papers  3 (0.5%)
Total Ballot Papers Returned  612 (100%)
A total of 1452 ballot papers were issued and 612 were returned which means that 42% of sheltered housing tenants voted in the election. This is a good turnout and a clear indication that sheltered housing tenants are interested in ensuring that issues that are important to them are heard at Board level.

Marie Blundell, the successful candidate, will be appointed to the Wigan and Leigh Housing Board at the company Annual General Meeting on 2nd September.
