Private Rented Accommodation

This page tells you about Private Rented Accommodation in the Borough.

What is Private Rented Accommodation?

These are properties that are rented out by private Landlords, who may own one or several properties. These properties are sometime managed by Letting Agents on behalf of the Landlord. If you were to be given a tenancy in Private Rented accommodation this would usually be an Assured Shorthold (6 month) tenancy. These tenancies do not necessarily end after the 6 month period, and can be sustained over several years if the tenancy is conducted satisfactorily.

If you decide to move into Housing Association or Private Rented accommodation and find that the Landlord does not remedy any defects, please contact Wigan Council's Enforcement Team on 01942 733352.

Where can I find Private Rented Accommodation?

Properties are advertised with local Lettings Agents, local newspapers and the Yellow Pages. They are also advertised on these two external websites:

www.rightmove.co.uk

www.globrix.com.
