Whats going on????

A new feature to the website is the Customer Involvement calendar. Click on the link below and find out what’s happening in your area. We have the dates, times and venues of all Tenants and resident group meetings, area forums and estate inspections! Plus one offs like gala days and other events!

Better Neighbourhood Awards – Gardening Competition 2009

The annual gardening competition returned last year with some gardens better than ever! The official launch date was the 11th May and the Gardening Competition working group (made up of tenants and staff of WALH) and Wigan and Leigh Housing's Chief Executive Ashley Crumbley celebrated by visiting Cherry Tree sheltered housing scheme in Atherton for photo opportunities and a buffet. A cherry tree was planted at the scheme to celebrate this years launch, as well as the 50th Birthday celebration of the scheme.

Standards were once again high and the judges had a hard task in choosing the winners. The winners of the five categories this year were:  

Best Traditional Garden - Deborah Browne, Norley Hall

Best Hanging Basket and Container Garden - Anne and Jeff Higham, Pemberton 

Best Young Gardener - Anna (age 10) and Josiah (aged 8) Aitchinson, Hindley

Best Communal Garden - Gladys Grumshaw, Hindley

Best Ornamental Garden - Elizabeth Lindsay, Bryn

Funding

The Customer Involvement team administer 2 pots of funding that can be used by any group from Wigan and Leigh Housing estates.

Community Involvement Fund (CIF, maximum £250) and Better Neighbourhood Fund (BNF, maximum £500 or up to £1000 with forum chairs approval for projects with longer lasting Community benefits). If you would like more information or an application pack contact the Customer Involvement Team.

Tenant Training

The Customer Involvement team run training sessions throughout each year for our tenants to attend. We run a range of courses, including 'Microsoft Word' and 'Excel' basics for those of you new to computers, and sessions like 'Treasurer', 'Secretary', 'Chair' and 'How to run a Tenants and Residents group' training for those of you on groups or with aspirations to set up a community group in your area.

The training sessions for last year have been well attended and comments from attendees have been very positive. Everyone has found the sessions very enjoyable and informative.

To ensure as many tenants as possible are able to attend, our training sessions are open to all tenants of Wigan and Leigh Housing. The new training diary will soon be published with dates of all training sessions for this year.

Tenants Conference

Last years Annual Tenants Conference was held at St Peters Pavillion, Hindley on 25th September with the theme based on 'Communities working together can beat the recession'.

The Conference was supported by a very high satisfaction figure of 96%, the best so far! To find out more go on Tenants' Conference 2009 under Getting Involved.

The Tenants' Conference planning group is always on the lookout for funding so if you know of any funding out there for the group or would like to join the group contact the Customer Involvement Team.

The Tenants' Conference planning group are looking to have their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 3rd February 1pm - 3pm at Oaklands Court, Hindley.The purpose of the meeting will be to establish the membership of the planning group and to explore ideas about how we can make the event even more successful than previous years, a big challenge but one we know you can meet!

If you would like to join the planning group in preparing and putting your ideas forward for this years conference then please contact the Customer Involvement Team. We are always on the look out for new volunteers and so please help us to spread the word by inviting your friends and neighbours to get involved too.

Customer Involvement Update

Customer Involvement run a monthly newsletter which gives a brief update of the things the team have been doing with tenants and residents out on the estates. If you would like to read the latest newsletter simply follow the link below. We e-mail the newsletter out to tenants who are on our e-mail list, if you would like to be on this list let us know.
