Council Tenant Evicted

An Atherton man has been evicted from his council home for persistent anti-social behaviour.

Wigan and Leigh Housing began to receive complaints about 21 year old Robert Rowley within weeks of him moving into 18 Wavertree Avenue. Rowley ignored repeated warnings and the final straw came when he threw a television through his living room window; he even failed to attend a review hearing granted after Wigan & Leigh Housing told him of their intention to seek eviction.

Wigan & Leigh Housing were granted full possession of the home at a Leigh County Court earlier this month (1st May) and Mr Rowley was finally evicted last week. Ashley Crumbley, Wigan and Leigh Housing Chief Executive says:

“The house was left in a shocking condition and we were right to take this action. Introductory tenancies of the kind Mr Rowley had give us the powers to take legal action against people whose behaviour is seriously detrimental to other people’s quality of life.

“The decent people who live council estates have asked us to get on with the job of tackling the few bad tenants who are causing problems. We do not like evicting people, but we will do what must to make sure we have decent council estates where everyone can live in peace.”
