Move over Alan Sugar!
Because when it comes to producing top class apprentices Wigan & Leigh Housing (WALH) is the clear winner.
The borough’s largest provider of social housing has a long-standing commitment to taking on young people and training them up for the world of work in all aspects of the organisation’s business. Each year WALH rewards its top performing young stars at the Apprentices’ Award Ceremony, which was held at the JJB Stadium recently.
There were a number of categories of prizes up for grabs and when the judging was finished and the votes were cast there were four clear winners.
Paul Eckersley took the award for Achievement in the Workplace, Ismah Anees picked up the prize for Progression in Career, Lucy Murphy became a qualified success for her Achievement in NVQ, while Stacey Hasleden won the award for Customer Service.
Stacey, who hails from Wigan, was also crowned the overall Apprentice of the Year. Stacey joined WALH last April, supporting the Sheltered Housing Section.
The judges noted that despite this being her first job she has all the right qualities for success being patient, supportive and an excellent team player. She is due to complete her NVQ level 2 in Business Administration this summer.
WALH Chief Executive Ashley Crumbley is a big supporter of the apprenticeship scheme.
“More and more businesses and public services are realising the benefits of taking apprentices,” Ashley says. “We employ around 500 staff and provide 30 apprentice and training places. As these awards demonstrate, apprentices are committed and motivated people who want to get trained. Our award winners are really talented youngsters and the apprenticeship provides them with workplace training. With this training they have a better chance of getting a permanent job in a difficult employment market.”
He adds:
“A big well done to all our winners and special congratulations to Stacey, she has proved to be a valuable asset.”
