What attracted you to Wigan and Leigh Housing?
They are a caring employer with a good reputation that makes a difference to people’s lives every day. I was also attracted by the good salary, close location, job security and good career prospects.

How would you describe your typical working day?
Talking to customers is thirsty work so I always start the day with a cup of coffee and a glass of water. Providing accurate information on our services and those of our partners, I typically deal with customer calls regarding new repairs, rent enquiries, allocations, expressions of interest and neighbourhood problems. Inputting and maintaining customer details on our computer database, I create works orders, book orders for tradespeople, liaise with contractors and log all compliments, comments and complaints. I enjoy plenty of variety in a role that also involves checking emails, sending out the post and carrying out customer satisfaction surveys.

What is the best thing about your work?
It’s the fact that there is so much variety. I don’t get bored because I deal with so many different queries every day. I also enjoy the great team spirit in the office where everyone gets on well with each other and thrives on the challenge of meeting service level targets.

What skills or qualifications do you need for your role?
To provide a quality service as part of our Contact Centre Team, it’s essential to be a good team player with a passion for customer care and good prioritisation and time management skills. You’ll also benefi t from some experience of using computers to input and retrieve information and working with customers either face to face or over the telephone.

What advice would you give to someone looking for a career in housing?
Check out job websites and the recruitment pages of local newspapers on a weekly basis. And don’t forget to check out our careers section on this website.
