What attracted you to Wigan & Leigh Housing?
The accessible location close to home, the flexible working conditions and obviously the role that provided the enjoyable challenge I had been looking for.

How would you describe your typical working day?
In my role I have many responsibilities. Once I have visited the office to catch up with my administration, my day can involve anything from site meetings, progress meetings and review meetings to visiting tenants to resolve any issues, gaining feedback from a group of tenants and arranging consultation events.

What is the best thing about your work?
I get to meet people from all walks of life and no two days are ever the same. I also enjoy making a real difference to people’s lives by resolving issues to the satisfaction of the customer.

What skills do you need for your role?
You need to be approachable and a good listener and negotiator with the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people at all levels. It’s also important to be able to think on your feet and put yourself in the customer’s shoes to understand and empathise with their point of view. You must be innovative and forward thinking with the ability to plan ahead.

What advice would you give to someone looking for a career in housing?
Wigan and Leigh Housing is a good place to start, especially as there are so many different types of careers.
