When you were discussing the purchase of your flat with your solicitor, you will have been advised that the flat was being sold to you on a leasehold basis.
Your lease explains in detail the responsibilities and obligations of both the Leaseholder (you) and the Landlord (Wigan Council) under the lease. The information provided on this website explains in simple terms the general provisions contained in the lease in relation to who will repair and maintain the different parts of the flat. It also summarises the basic obligations on the Leaseholder and the Landlord to maintain and repair the individual flat and the block and grounds in which the flat is situated.
As a Leaseholder you will have to pay the Landlord for your share of the cost of any services and repairs provided under the lease. These costs will be recharged to you in the form of Service Charges. Click here for further details about service charges .
Although Wigan Council is your Landlord, the obligations of Wigan Council to provide services, undertake repairs and maintenance, and calculate service charges in relation to your property are undertaken by Wigan and Leigh Housing on behalf of Wigan Council.
